Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

Prelude and Fugue in G BWV 541 (playing only the Prelude).
From J.S. Bach's Best and Most popular Organ Works, BWV 541 - someone said, ”a wonderful piece, I think the most brilliant ever”!

Recorded for Modartt Video Contest 2024 by Stig, using headphones Grado Labs SR125X, Mac Mini late -14, DAW Garageband and Organteq 2.

I don't have a pedalboard yet so I have to play the bass part from the keyboard.

Let it be said now, that I have always had, and have, complex about my small hands, and therefore I don’t film them during my playing. It feels as if they are not good enough in some cases, and a bit stiff now with a small hook on the little fingers.

But I am happy that I am still able to participate, a twelfth (12th) time, and with Organteq for the first time! And I love these competitions, they are a great inspiration for me. Thank you Modartt.

And, Good luck to all participants!

Excellent video and great playing! - Organteq is getting very good now - I have very small hands too. If anything, you should show them off more - it is far more challenging playing difficult pieces with small hands, than it is seeing people with enormous hands just reach big chords with ease. An octave is a full stretch for me, so an octave +1 is just about achievable if I'm right on the edge of the keys - but trying to play any notes in between is painful.

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

Another hybridization project between VCV Rack and Pianoteq, mixing ostinatos and delays over a subtle canvas of shimmer reverb and choir. This is a piece I recorded while developing the NoteEcho module, which is coded in C++ for the VCV Rack platform. The motivation behind the module (and the piece itself), was that the usual delay effect is typically audio-based, and I wanted a modular delay effect that would instead delay the actual midi notes that go to Pianoteq, which then allows separate modulations to be applied to the notes (namely: pitch offset, velocity and probability). A Valhalla ping-pong audio delay is also used for an added torrent of notes! Using the condition slider and the celeste pedal on the U4 really helped to get the vibe needed for the piece. As a side note, in the initial midi recording of the piece I was not using the sustain pedal (virtual brick on the pedal), and after watching the polyphony go above 150 or so during editing, I went back and automated the sustain for the final rendering :-)

This year, I have created a MIDI-file of well-known Schubert' impromptu (Op.142 No.2), using score input method ("staff view" mode) in the DAW/sequencer Cakewalk-by-BandLab/SONAR.
As shown in the video, I let the piece play with Bösendorfer 280VC.
No external effect plug-ins are used.
Thank you for listening and watching my video.I hope you enjoy it

Thanks so much Stig! And congrats for your entry this year, it's a very nice way to kick off the contest!
It's quite fun to participate in these, I like that it gives me motivation to put a little extra effort into making something special, and I'm sure it's the same for everyone here, so cheers to all that will enter the contest. Make something that you're proud of!

For your information I had to delete two entries since they didn't follow one of the following contest rules:

- The video needs to be new, not published before.

- It needs to be clear on your video that you are using Pianoteq 8 or Organteq 2, either by showing the interface, talking about or displaying Pianoteq 8 or Organteq 2 in text.

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

Improvised Minor Blues (jazz)

Pianoteq 8 kinda blew me away... To be able to feel truly *inspired* by the tone and feel of virtual instrument is the challenge, and this one does it effortlessly. Awesome.

As always I love seeing all the wonderfully creative performances posted here! For this performance I used one of the Steinways and altered the velocity curve a bit. I tried to demonstrate both softness, power and responsiveness of the instrument. Apologies for any clipping in the audio...

hi all, here's my entry - a cover of Dorian by Men I Trust. I used three Pianoteq instances - Steinway D for the main piano part, the W2 wurlitzer, and the Petrov Mistral for an acoustic bass sound.

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

Good evening, here is my entry.
I would have liked to film myself playing but I really can't, I lose my composure as soon as the camera records. I can no longer play 3 notes without mistakes. So I did a quick little edit using AI-generated images. Good luck everyone, SK

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

Excited to Submit My First Entry!

Hi all,

Here's my entry - a piano cover of "Clock" by coldplay! This is my first time submitting an entry for this video contest, and I'm thrilled to be part of it. I decided to try a unique perspective by playing the piano from behind.

Please overlook any imperfections and focus on the soothing sound of the Steinway piano by Pianoteq. I hope you enjoy it!

Good luck to all participants!

My entry for this year uses Pianoteq 8's ability to perform in the Werckmeister No. 3 temperament, which is specified for this piece by contemporary Japanese composer Mamoru Fujieda.

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

Good evening everyone !

This is the first time I participate in the Pianoteq Contest.
From the first book of The Well-Tempered Clavier by J.S. Bach, the powerful Fugue n. 7 in E-Flat major à 3 parts.
Bach said: "The final aim and reason of all music is nothing other than the glorification of God and the refreshment of the soul."
I started playing again two years ago after 25 years of stopping, I love Bach and music is my hobby.
Thanks to Pianoteq I have found that even a poor entry level instrument like my digital piano can acquire enormous potential, and give great satisfaction, even in polyphonic pieces like this wonderful Bach fugue.
Recorded for Modartt Video Contest 2024 by Carmelo Paolucci from Italy, using Played on Yamaha P125 piano stage, . Video Recording Samsung galaxy A54.
VST: Hamburg Steinway D Pianoteq Stage 8.2.1
Editing: Wondershare Filmora

Compared to the standard configuration of Pianoteq I varied the velocity curve to make it more performing with my keyboard.

I hope you enjoy my performance and I thank you in advance for all the time you have dedicated to listening to it and for the possibilities that Pianoteq gives us.

Good luck to all partecipants!

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

This is my daughter original composition and (admittedly a bit rough) playing.

We found that the wonderful Bosendorfer's timbre and the New Age preset are a perfect match for this modern-style Nocturne.

We hope you enoy!

Here is my video. I used Pianoteq 8 Pro with the U4 Upright Piano model to play a piano intermezzo I prototyped in Synfire 2.5 Pro.
This time no DAW and no further audio processing was involved. Everything you see and hear is Pianoteq and Synfire.

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

Here is my contribution. I play the first movement of the piano sonata no. 1 by Dutch composer Hendrik Andriessen - a quite amazing piece I have been sort of obsessed with recently. (Haven't fully mastered it technically, unfortunately - but I hope it's enjoyable nevertheless!)
Sound is Steinway NY Gentle, velocity calibrated to my MIDI controller (M-Audio Keystation 88 pro).

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

This video is in two parts, the first giving context for the piece (part of a future performance work called Gatwick on the Orient Express), and just before 2 minutes, the tune itself, an adaption of Carl Orff's Gassenhauer. Recorded using Ableton, it features 4 Pianoteq instruments plus assorted sampled percussion and a UVI Falcon synth sound.

The video was made using OBS Studio and DaVinci Resolve, with effects from Runway Gen 3 and film of a (real!) piano (thanks, Paul) using an Insta360 camera. Watch here: https://youtu.be/C8MDmmIsntI

And yes, if you want to go from Paris to Istanbul on the Orient Express, it will cost you £50,000.

Hi all,

Great amount of entries with more than a week to go till deadline - the judges will be busy!

Here is my small contribution with the new Kawai which I am very fond of - haven't purchased yet but it's on my Xmas list so had to find a piece or two that have no offending notes to the demo version - enjoy! Thanks for listening.

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

Hello everyone. This is my entry for this year’s contest. “La Buena Vecindad” is a song written by Peruvian songwriter Willy Noriega, reminding us to be kind, get along well, and live happily without harming others. It also encourages us to strive to put an end to violence. Enjoy this version, created with Pianoteq 8, bass, drums, and tap dance.

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

My entry this year is Chopin's "new" waltz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfUvvpwHiTk I was going to use this to test the new Bösendorfer, which I'm very excited about, but I decided the historical Bechstein suited it better. I also gave what I believe is the first Australian concert performance of this piece.

For anyone who doesn't already know the story: a piece of paper turned up in a museum in New York earlier this year, and turns out to be a previously unknown piece by Chopin. Read more about it at https://www.artnews.com/art-news/news/p...234722397/

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

Here is my 2024 entry. It’s a 5-minute improvisation using Pianoteq8, with choir pad and pipe organ added later. Regrettably not Organteq as I can’t fund that yet, and my 2006 PC would probably die trying to run it!

I like the feature of Pianoteq that records everything you play, so I can go back and extract the nice-sounding bits later. I improvised this while thinking about a friend who had recently died, who always appreciated my music. It’s thoughtful and contemplative, and includes a note of hope towards the end, resolving finally in a major key. I’m pleased with the result, and I hope you enjoy it as well.

My entry this year is "Part of Your World" from the Disney movie "The Little Mermaid". Every since I heard this song I have been captivated by the beautiful melody.

It has been my 11th year participating (shocking!!), as the hair becomes more sparse and kids turn into young adults, through the ups and down in life, COVID and societal upheavals; Pianoteq and the annual Pianoteq piano competition has been a constant. So grateful to Modartt and the pianoteq community.

Hope you enjoy it and best wishes to all contestants!

Beautiful long intro, about 3 minutes with those wonderful best ”jazz chords”, good climax at about 4,40 - 4,50 and slow soothing ending. Great playing budo, as always, good luck!

Best wishes,

Re: MODARTT VIDEO CONTEST 2024 - entries

Hello dear music lovers,

here is our contribution to the Video Contest 2024.

We have recorded the Allemande from the Sonata 11 opus 3 by Jean-Baptiste Loeillet de Gant. The composer gave the performance marking vivace for this allemande. We have therefore chosen a lively tempo. Information about the composer:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Bapt...et_de_Gant

The melody was played with an oboe (swam audio modeling).
The accompanying part was played on the organ (organteq 2 - Baroque Chapel). We used the stops Gedackt 8' and Octave 2' for the first and third part, for the second part we only used Gedackt 8'.

Best regards
J. Unruh

Thank you obiwan. I appreciate your comment.

Best wishes,

Stig
