The Milltown Little League 8- year-old All-Star team completed a successful tournament season by winning the annual Milltown Baseball 8-year-old tournament and finishing in second place in the Fords Invitational tournament with a combined season record of 9-2. The Milltown 8s went undefeated in the Milltown Tournament beating East Brunswick 13-3, Metuchen 4-3, Spotswood 13-4, East Brunswick 12-8 and Metuchen 4-3 in the championship game. The team went 4-2 in the Fords Invitational Tournament after losing the first game against Carteret 6-4 and then beating Fords 11-0, Woodbridge 14-1, Monroe 12-1, North Edison 2-1, and then losing in the championship game to an undefeated Green Brook team 7-3. The Milltown 8s were led by the dynamic pitching duo of Nate Carone and Nick Mohr and great relief pitching from Mike Izzo and Abdullah Nieskens. Leading hitters for the Milltown team were Mohr (21-for-25), Izzo (17-for-28), Justin Dekovics (6-for-11), Chris Robel (10-for- 24), Carone (8-for-23), and Derek Buhl (5-for-16). Playing great defense and some clutch hitting were D.J. Schaffer, Fred Rago, Vinny Masselli, Nieskens, Andrew Oross and Andrew Thompson. The coaching staff consisted of Mike Mohr, Dave Nieskens, Tim Buhl, Scott Thompson and Steve Dekovics. The staff would like to thank the parents, grandparents, friends and all of the Milltown residents who came out to support the team this season.

Immaculate Conception School in Spotswood is looking for a head boys soccer coach for the fall season. The team consists of players in the sixth through eighth grade. The season runs from Sept. 3 through Oct. 31 and consists of 18 games against other schools in the Greater Middlesex Conference. If interested, contact John Hager, athletic director, at 908-309-7795

The Old Bridge Girls Soccer U11B Hurricanes has several open slots for the upcoming season. The team is looking for girls with birth dates between Aug. 1, 1997, to July 31, 1998, who have either recreational or travel soccer experience. The team plays 10 games per season in the MOSA National III flight, and practices one to two times per week with a professional trainer. The East Brunswick Junior American Legion baseball team ended its season with a record of 22-5. It lost the final in the district championship 7-6 to Hamilton. The pitching was led by Jermey Accardi, Philip Granito Jr. and Eric Hsia. Their power source came from Carl Thom*ore and J.J. Glinka. Also some great play from Tim Kurucz and Steve Shanko, and some muchneeded relief work from Jake Bruno. They all played great: Matt Cleaver, Jose Perdermo, Zack Katz, Kevin Simms and Jason Dondes.

The Sayreville Soccer Association will use online registration for the fall 2008 season. Registration started on Aug. 1.The fall season begins on Saturday, Sept. 13.

The high school and middle school programs start Saturday, Sept. 6.

The program is open to girls and boys ages 4 through high school in Sayreville and South Amboy.

The cost is $60 per child plus a $60 work bond check, which is returned after three hours of work. Discounts available for multiple participants in the same family.

Micro program is for children ages 4 and 5. This is a training program designed to teach young children soccer through drills and games geared for the age group. This is normally held on Saturday morning depending on the number of participants.

Division 5 is a 6-on-6 program designed for 5- and 6-year-olds. It includes training and on-field coaches.

Divisions 3 and 4 are 8-on-8 programs geared for ages 7-10. Training is provided for these age groups.

Division 2 is middle school students who will participate with another local town.

Division 1 is high school students who will play against other local towns. Most games are on Saturday with an occasional Sunday and weekday game.
